Lynchburg General Hospital

Lynchburg General Hospital's Federal Street building had been completely renovated in 1939, with separate sections for whites and Negroes. Seven years later the hospital became independent of city control and established a group of commissioners representing the public.

At its new and expanded facility on Tate Springs Road, Lynchburg General planned segregated wards and waiting rooms for black and white patients. The hospital on Tate Springs opened in the mid-1950s.
