Spring 2009 Operating Budget Suffers from Economic Downturn Tough economic times have hit the operating budgets of non-profits especially hard, and the Legacy budget is no exception. Yes, Legacy applies for and receives grants for equipment and special projects. And dedicated volunteers donate their time to countless necessary tasks, from copying documents, to serving as docents, to mowing the lawn. But, just as at your house, some expenses-utility bills, telephone bills, insurance premiums-roll around every month, as does the modest salary of our museum administrator. These operating expenses are not covered by grants and have been especially hard to meet during the current recession. Our loyal supporters have brought us such a long way already, almost to our tenth anniversary, and we continue to be very grateful. But if we are to fulfill our mission to the community-if we are to continue telling the stories of Central Virginia's African Americans-then your continued financial support is essential. Ways You Can Help Legacy's Operating Budget
