Prepare for Kwanzaa at Legacy

Kwanzaa, which takes place between December 26 and January 1, is a celebration of family, community, culture, and traditions. A word meaning "first fruits of the harvest," Kwanzaa is a time of thanksgiving for the accomplishments of the year that is ending, as well as a time for projecting new growth into the year ahead.

Legacy offers several ways to take part in this annual celebration. On Saturday, December 13, from noon until 1:30 in the Legacy Activity Center, Royal Jones will present "Spoken Words" in observance of Kwanzaa. Following Jones's presentation, from 1:30 until 4:00 in the Activity Center, Phyllistine Mosley will lead a workshop on making Kwanzaa décor for the home, including tree ornaments. She will also demonstrate Kwanzaa symbols and items that youth can make.

Beginning on Wednesday, December 17, and ending on Sunday, December 21, Legacy will hold a Kwanzaa Open House. Symbols of Kwanzaa will be on display in the Activity Center. Visitors can view ideas for Kwanzaa decorations and tree ornaments, and items will be available for purchase to support the Legacy Museum. The Kwanzaa Open House will take place during regular Museum hours, from noon until 4:00 Wednesday through Saturday and from 2:00 until 4:00 on Sunday.
