Revolutionary Witnesses to Justice: The Founding of a Legacy in Central Virginian

The twentieth century gave voice to the Silent Witnesses who endured an unspeakable yet undeniable past. Their mark on the central Virginia landscape is being recognized in myriad ways through community collaborations. Revolutionary Witnesses to Justice advocated for human and civil rights through their civic engagement. They left a legacy by creating a museum that documents and interprets the history of African Americans in central Virginia. This exhibition highlights the determined efforts of the activists, advocates and allies who created The Legacy Museum.

Grants Awarded

The Legacy Project, Inc. is pleased to acknowledge receipt of the following grants.

Virginia Humanities/CARES Act Funding to support the Legacy Museum has been provided by Virginia Humanities and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) as part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act economic stabilization plan of 2020

Greater Lynchburg Community Foundation Funding and support received for the Legacy Museum of African American History. Their support assists the museum in programming and the ability to keep many of our programs free and low cost for the community.

The Easley Foundation Funding received to support structural repairs and archiving of Legacy Museum media.

The Board of Directors of the Legacy Museum of African American History celebrates the 20th Anniversary of the Legacy Museum of African American History! Legacy is Central Virginia’s first museum dedicated to preserving the history and culture of local African Americans. To commemorate, we invite you to join Legacy in raising funds for the museum’s future success.
